Allen Yorkshire Terrier: Health Guarantee & Lifetime Support

At Allen Yorkshire Terrier, we stand firmly behind every Yorkshire Terrier puppy we lovingly raise, reflecting our unwavering commitment to breed integrity, exceptional health, and the lifelong well-being of these spirited, affectionate companions. When you welcome one of our Yorkies into your home, you are receiving far more than a pet—you are gaining a carefully bred, thoroughly vetted family member supported by our comprehensive health assurances and enduring partnership. Your confidence in your puppy’s foundation is our highest priority, and we believe that proactive health management and intentional early development create the strongest possible foundation for your Yorkshire Terrier’s vibrant, loving life.

Comprehensive Health Foundation From Birth

Every Yorkshire Terrier puppy receives meticulous veterinary care and developmental preparation before joining your family. Our professional veterinary oversight includes thorough physical examinations by licensed veterinarians at multiple developmental stages, age-appropriate vaccinations protecting against distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and Bordetella, a strategic deworming protocol targeting common intestinal parasites, and complete veterinary records and health documentation provided at placement. We pay special attention to toy-breed vulnerabilities, monitoring weight gain closely to prevent hypoglycemia and assessing dental development to identify retained puppy teeth early.

Our breed-specific genetic health screening ensures that all breeding Yorkshire Terriers undergo extensive DNA and diagnostic testing for conditions prevalent in the breed. This includes screening for Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd-PRA), Patellar Luxation, Portosystemic Shunt (liver shunt) risk assessment, Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease, Tracheal Collapse predisposition evaluation, Dental Anomalies screening, Cardiac conditions including Mitral Valve Disease, and Genetic testing for GM1 and GM2 Gangliosidoses. We also conduct BAER testing for hearing when indicated, particularly in puppies with extensive white markings, and evaluate for keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) predisposition. Every breeding dog receives annual comprehensive veterinary examinations, ophthalmologist eye examinations certified through CAER, cardiac screening by veterinary specialists, and temperament evaluation emphasizing the breed’s characteristic boldness, affection, and alertness.

Our purposeful developmental enrichment begins at birth with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) during the critical neonatal period to support resilient nervous system development. Puppies receive daily gentle handling and socialization with children, adults, and other calm pets in a home environment, controlled exposure to household sounds, varied surfaces, and novel experiences to build confidence without overwhelming their sensitive nature, introduction to crate comfort using positive reinforcement and foundational potty training routines suited to small bladders, and confidence-building exercises tailored to the intelligent, spirited Yorkie temperament. We handle paws, ears, and muzzle gently during play to build grooming tolerance early, and we introduce harness wearing to protect delicate tracheas from collar pressure. We believe that this proactive, breed-aware approach creates the strongest possible foundation for your Yorkshire Terrier’s healthy, joyful life.

3-Year Hereditary Health Guarantee

We proudly guarantee every Yorkshire Terrier puppy against serious congenital and hereditary conditions for three full years from your placement date. Covered conditions include moderate to severe Patellar Luxation (Grade 3 or 4) confirmed by a board-certified veterinary surgeon requiring surgical intervention, Portosystemic Shunt (liver shunt) diagnosed via imaging or surgical exploration requiring medical or surgical management, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (prcd-PRA) or other hereditary eye conditions causing significant vision impairment confirmed by a veterinary ophthalmologist, Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease affecting the hip joint requiring surgical correction, severe Dental Anomalies or retained puppy teeth causing significant oral health complications requiring extensive intervention, Congenital cardiac defects such as Patent Ductus Arteriosus requiring intervention, Bilateral deafness confirmed by BAER testing before 12 months of age, and documented Tracheal Collapse directly linked to congenital structural weakness requiring surgical management.

If a covered condition is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian within the 3-year guarantee period, you may choose between a replacement Yorkshire Terrier puppy of equivalent value from a future litter or a partial refund of your original purchase price, determined by diagnosis severity, veterinary documentation, and individual circumstances. To maintain eligibility under this guarantee, diagnosis must be provided by a licensed veterinarian with supporting documentation including imaging, lab work, or specialist evaluation; proof of consistent veterinary wellness care and current vaccinations must be maintained; your Yorkshire Terrier must receive high-quality, nutritionally balanced small-breed puppy food appropriate for preventing hypoglycemia and supporting delicate development; spaying or neutering should not occur before 12 months of age without breeder consultation, as early alteration may impact growth plate closure and joint health in toy breeds; the puppy must remain in your original household as the guarantee is non-transferable; and breeding or showing without breeder approval voids guarantee coverage. Full terms are detailed in the signed Health Guarantee Agreement provided at puppy placement.

Lifetime Breeder Partnership—Your Resource for Life

Our relationship with you and your Yorkshire Terrier continues long after your puppy goes home. We remain your dedicated support system throughout your dog’s entire journey. We are here to help with breed-specific training approaches for this intelligent, sometimes stubborn toy breed; socialization strategies for building confidence in alert, sensitive Yorkies; nutrition planning focused on preventing hypoglycemia and supporting small-breed metabolism; grooming guidance for the Yorkie’s signature silky coat including early desensitization techniques; understanding breed traits such as boldness, affection, alertness, and the importance of gentle handling to protect delicate anatomy; health questions or concerns about normal Yorkshire Terrier characteristics versus warning signs; and responsible activity progression for growing puppies to protect developing joints and prevent falls or injuries.

No question is too small—we are here for you, whether you need guidance on harness fitting to protect the trachea, tips for managing barking tendencies, or support navigating age-related dental care. Our partnership evolves but never ends.

Our Ethical Yorkshire Terrier Breeding Philosophy

Responsible Yorkie breeding demands deep breed knowledge, health vigilance, and respect for this remarkable toy breed’s heritage. Our practices reflect these principles. All our Yorkshire Terriers live as beloved family members within our home—never in kennels. Puppies develop surrounded by daily household activity, fostering confident, adaptable temperaments essential to the breed while ensuring they are comfortable with the sounds and rhythms of family life.

Every breeding dog receives annual comprehensive veterinary examinations, OFA or PennHIP evaluation for patellas and hips prior to breeding, full-panel DNA testing through reputable laboratories including screening for prcd-PRA, GM1/GM2 gangliosidoses, and other breed-relevant markers, ophthalmologist eye examinations certified through CAER, cardiac screening by veterinary specialists, dental evaluation to assess for retained teeth or malocclusion, and temperament evaluation emphasizing the breed’s characteristic affection, alertness, and spirited nature. We practice strict avoidance of breeding dogs with known hereditary conditions or unclear health clearances, and we prioritize structural soundness, gentle temperament, and robust health in every breeding decision.

Our thoughtful breeding practices include limited, purposeful litters aligned with responsible demand and our capacity to provide individualized care; extended rest periods between litters to protect dam health and wellbeing; breeding only dogs demonstrating excellent structure, temperament, and comprehensive health clearances; and ensuring puppies remain with dam and littermates through critical developmental windows to support proper socialization and bite inhibition. We believe that quality always outweighs quantity, and every puppy receives the focused attention they deserve.

Puppies stay with us until 9–10 weeks of age to ensure complete immune system maturation, essential littermate socialization for communication skills and confidence, emotional readiness for transition to their forever homes, and successful transition to solid foods and household routines with special attention to preventing hypoglycemia. This extended stay allows us to observe each puppy’s emerging personality and match them thoughtfully with families whose lifestyles complement their individual traits.
